Ruth M. (Lehan) Smith of Stoneham passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her daughter's home in Florida. She was 92 years of age.
Born on May 9, 1924 in Cambridge, Ruth was the loving daughter of the late William Lehan and Anna (Olex) Lehan. Ruth was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her
Ruth worked for Harvard Law School for her professional life. For fifty-eight years she spent summers in Marshfield and continued to swim in the cold Atlantic well into year ninetytwo. Ruth enjoyed traveling to the Southwest and to Europe. She had fun with crossword puzzles and bird watching, a love that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was a loyal and dedicated homemaker and had a deep love for her family that went unparalleled.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Arnold Smith. She was the devoted mother of Kathleen Rhodes and her husband Ed, Richard Smith and his wife Leslie, Lauren Murphy and her late husband Jan, Wendy Leo and her husband Matt and Michael Smith and his longtime companion Diane Rocca. Ruth was the cherished grandmother of Mihaela Mabius and her husband David, Jeffrey Murphy and his wife Laura, Eric Smith, Chris Murphy, Kathryn Murphy, Rosemary Leo, Greg Leo, Doug Rhodes and Ed Rhodes III. She was the loving great grandmother of Emily Mabius, Mackenzie Rhodes and Molly Rhodes. The dear sister of the late William "Buddy" Lehan, she was the aunt of Karen Sinclair, Billy Lehan and Karl Smith.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Tuesday, December 20th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Ruth's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Monday, December 19th from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
