S. Rita Touet of Stoneham formerly of Somerville passed away on Friday September 30, 2011 at her home. She was 88 years of age.





Rita began working at the New England Confection Company, NECCO, in the early 1940s. She started out dusting 'peanuts,' those orange marshmallow candies still available today, and worked her way up to Executive Secretary to the President of NECCO. Rita remained at NECCO until 1958 when she married her husband, Josef Touet, who had come from Trumpf Chocoladen Factory in Aachen,Germany to install a pralette plant, a machine that brought Skybars and Rollos to American consumers.





The Touets moved from Somerville to Stoneham in 1969. In 1971 developers were attempting to purchase the land that at the time was an 18-hole golf course that was in both Stoneham and Woburn. Rita joined the Concerned Parents of Unicorn for Recreation and became very involved in the successful effort to save the land. In 1972 the town purchased the property to be kept in perpetuity as recreational land, Unicorn Golf Course, it also led to the building of the Stoneham Arena on Montvale Avenue.





Rita was the beloved wife of Josef Touet. She was the devoted mother of Maria Touet of Stoneham and Karl Touet and his wife Lisa of North Reading. She was the dear sister of the late Lilian Ceresi, Louis Sbraccia, and Eleanor Sbraccia. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Sbraccia and Mary (Guercio) Sbraccia. Rita was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) Wednesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Rita's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Tuesday from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Entombment Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.
