Salvatore Magro, 85, beloved husband of Concetta (Gendusa) Magro, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born in Chiusa Sclafani, Sicily, he is the son of the late Ignazio and Maria Magro.
Salvatore grew up in Liguria, Northern Italy and came to the United States in 1957. He married his loving wife Connie in 1972 and they raised their family in Reading. Salvatore was a cobbler by trade then worked for 25 years for Western Union. Upon retirement, he then worked at the United States Postal Service for 18 years as a clerk. Salvatore was a hardworking man, an avid gardener and was devoted to his family. He was a parishonier of St. Agnes Church in Reading and a member of the Italian American Club and the Appian Club of Stoneham. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to being the beloved husband of Concetta (Gendusa) Magro, he is the father of Rosemarie Furey and her husband Jim, Stephan Magro and his wife Nicolle and Erica Cahill and her husband Andy. The cherished grandfather of Michael and Liam Furey, Viola and Luca Magro and Saoirse Cahill, Salvatore was the beloved brother of Emma Magro and the late Alberto, Guiseppe and Emmanuele Magro, along with uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass Celebrating Salvatore's Eternal Life will be held on Friday, February 15th, 2019 at 10:30am in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., READING. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
