IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharleen Mari
(Courtney) Whealan
February 6, 1946 – January 20, 2024
Sharleen Mari (Courtney) Whealan, beloved wife of the late Paul "Bud" Whealan, passed away on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 with her family by her side. Born in Beverly, she is the loving daughter of the late Wilfred E. and M. June (Freeman) Courtney.
Sharleen grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She began her nursing career as an LPN, graduating from Boston City Hospital's Nursing School. Showing you are never too old to go to school, twenty years after she became an LPN, Sharleen attended Bunker Hill Community College and earned her license as a Registered Nurse. Her career included many years caring for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at Boston City Hospital and, later, caring for and helping adults at the Center for Addictive Behaviors. Sharleen had a caring, kind, and generous nature, which made her a beloved nurse to so many patients. Her generosity shone outside of work as well, as she was often spotted handing out Dunkin Donuts gift cards to those she interacted with in the community.
Sharleen settled in Charlestown with her husband Bud and raised their children. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Sharleen was a talented artist and was extremely crafty. Music and singing brought happiness and smiles to her. Her greatest joy came from being with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and the many people she brought joy to throughout her life.
Sharleen is the devoted mother of Sean Whealan, James Whealan and his wife Robin, Erin Anderson and her husband Dirk, and Kelli Howell and her husband Geoffrey; cherished grandmother of Paul, Megan, and Isabella Whealan, Noah and Melissa Howell, Cameron and Meredith Whealan, and Jack Anderson; loving sister of Kenneth Courtney and Richard Courtney, and beloved sister-in-law of Leah Severino and her husband Bill; close childhood friend of Carol Clouse and her husband Dennis, and of Lorraine Laurenza Burns ; and favored aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to celebrate Sharleen's life at a graveside service, on Friday, January 26th, 2024 at 11:00am, at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.
