Shirley A. (Ewing) Treacy

December 28, 1932 — April 24, 2017

Shirley A. (Ewing) Treacy, 84, passed away on Monday, April 24th, 2017. Shirley was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Shirley raised her family in Stoneham and Reading, Massachusetts and was married to her late husband for 56 wonderful years.

She graduated from Stoneham High School in 1950, continued secretarial work at Barbo's Furniture Store, then General Control Company in Allston, then Middlesex Bank in Stoneham Square while going to night school at Burdett College in Boston. She married in 1953 and stopped working to bring up her four children.

Shirley spent summers camping at Wyman's Beach in Westford with her husband Bill and family. They also traveled through Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire with their RV. She went back to work full time at Addison Wesley Book Publisher in Reading and then became assistant supervisor of the Royalty Department. Shirley and William bought a 75 year old home in South Yarmouth on the Cape and a villa at The Villages in Florida after retiring.

Her hobbies include crocheting afghans for all her children and grandchildren. Shirley also made quilts for the younger girls, Jessica and Katie. She loved to read, dance with her husband, line dance, play cards of all sorts, especially bridge, paint landscapes with oils and acrylics, children with pups, butterflies, ducks and flowers. She enjoyed golf at The Villages and the Cape and singing with The Village Choralettes for many years.

Shirley is the beloved wife of the late William J. Treacy, Jr., devoted mother of William Paul Treacy and his wife Kathleen, Sandra J. Gallien, Pamela A. Patterson and her husband Mark, Thomas M. Treacy and his wife Jill; the cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren, Scott Treacy and his wife Joya, Kerry Willey and her husband Michael, Kimberly Treacy, Richard Darragh and his wife Jessica, Erin Darragh, Kaitlyn Patterson, Sheila Patterson and Jay Boothby, Thomas Treacy and his wife Julia, Joseph Treacy and his wife Rachel, Michael Treacy, Jessica Treacy and six great grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Shawn Willey, Jordan and Troy Darragh and Jackson Boothby. She is predeceased by one brother Paul Ewing. Shirley was the loving daughter of the late Paul C. Ewing and Olive (Wade) Ewing.

A Funeral Service Celebrating Shirley's Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 11am in the Chapel at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the family on Friday, April 28th from 4 to 8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
