Stephen W. Lewko of Reading, died after a courageous battle with cancer with his best friend by his side at the Chelsea Soldier's Home on July 18, 2014 at age 59.
Born on August 24, 1954 in Cambridge, Stephen was the cherished son of the late Stanley Lewko and Mary (Knightly) Tanner.
Stephen was a brave and loyal Fire Fighter for the Town of Reading, retiring after 22 years and 10 months of dedicated service. A proud United States Navy Veteran, Stephen honorably defended our freedom by serving in the Vietnam War. Stephen was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 62 in Reading.
Stephen was the beloved best friend of Jay J. Flynn. The dear brother of Stan Lewko and his wife Julia, James Lewko and Michael Lewko and his wife Tammie, he was the loving uncle of Jason and his wife Kristyn, Taylor, Abbi, Sophia and Ciana Lewko. Stephen was the adoring great uncle of Jillian.
Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING, Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Stephen's Eternal Life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 5-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and handicapped entrance are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
