Susan Crosby, of Reading, passed away peacefully at her home on September 11, 2015. Susan was devoted to Ann for 25 years and a loving Aunt to Jennifer McDermott and her children: Taylor, Tara, and Joey of Forsyth, Montana, as well as Laura Swaine and her children: Katelyn and Michael of Millbury. In addition, she is survived by her brothers Gary V. Crosby, John W. Crosby, Harold R. Crosby, his wife Donna and their daughter Linear of Revere. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Harold V. Crosby and Mildred (Downing) Crosby and her sister Deborah Coles.
Susan was also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends she met throughout her life.
Raised in Chelsea Susan remained a city gal, however, she felt right at home after moving to Reading over 5 years ago. She enjoyed her daily walks around the neighborhood "to make sure all was well", as she would say, and made many friends along the way. Often referred to as "The Mayor", Susan loved meeting new people and striking up a conversation as if she had known that person for years. A very kind and giving person, Susan would help those in need any way she could. These attributes were obvious during her last job working as a personal caregiver for Alzheimer's patients.
After many years of working, Susan took great pleasure in being a homemaker. Whether she was busy cooking or baking, she would always make sure her home was in pristine condition. While living in Malden, she managed to create a flourishing garden in which she took great pride and could often be found outside tending to her flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
As much as Susan was a people person, she always had an affinity for animals, especially cats. She took great joy in caring for her precious cat, Max, whom she rescued from a drain pipe as a young kitten. Max quickly became a member of the family, living a happy and carefree life of almost twenty years.
Ann would like to invite all of Susan's family and friends to celebrate her life and share memories at Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. in Reading on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 1-4pm. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available.
