STONEHAM – Susan L. (Hartwell) Tangney, 75, beloved wife of John J. Tangney, passed away on Saturday, December 30th, surrounded by her family. Born in Malden, she is the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Kiernan) Hartwell. She is the loving mother of Jay Tangney and his wife Dina and Taralee Tangney Kirk; beloved grandmother of Coltan Bowen, Kiara Lumetta, Lydia Lydon and Calista Lumetta Tangney and Declan Carter and Torrin Lee Kirk; sister of Skip Hartwell and his wife Christine and the late Barbara Ann Hartwell; sister-in-law of Mary O'Shea and her husband Daniel; and aunt to Craig Hartwell and his wife Kristeen, Lindsay (Hartwell) McCormick and her husband Scott, Kerry Ann O'Shea, Christine Powers and her husband Tom and D.J. O'Shea; Cousin to Holly Carroll Cachimuel and her daughters: Thalia and Tequina and great aunt to Theo McCormick and Katherine and William Hartwell.
Susan grew up in Medford and attended Medford High School. For many years she worked as an executive secretary at Ris Paper Company. Susan was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife. She enjoyed summers in Ogunquit, Maine, hosting family and friends and sitting on the beach. Her greatest joy came from being with her family. She attended all of her grandchildren's games and was their biggest fan. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed and listening to the songs of Celtic Thunder.
Susan recently celebrated her 75th birthday and more importantly to her, her 50th wedding anniversary to the love of her life John. She was excited that her entire family got to be together to celebrate. She will truly be missed by her family and her many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street, (RT 28) Stoneham on Wednesday at 9am, followed by a funeral mass celebrating Susan's Eternal Life at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10am.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm. Parking lot attends and elevators are available.
