Teresa M. (Cullen) Cuddy

March 18, 1957 — August 9, 2016

Teresa M. (Cullen) Cuddy of Reading formerly of Medford, age 59, passed away on August 9, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Teresa was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Teresa was the devoted wife of Michael F. Cuddy. Beloved mother of Michael Cuddy and his wife Rebecca, Brian Cuddy and his wife Jane, Steven Cuddy and his wife Brooke and Derek Cuddy (nephew) and his wife Nicole. Cherished grandmother of Paige Teresa Cuddy who is now two months old. Caring sister of Denise Singleton and her husband Ted, Doreen Oughton and her husband Quentin Lewis, Paula Uttaro and her husband Ray, James Cullen and his wife Di and Stephen Cullen and his wife Adrienne. Teresa was also survived by her in-laws as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was the loving daughter of Geraldine (Silvey) and the late Paul Cullen who passed away on July 4, 2016.

Teresa was mother / big sister to so many, related or not. She was generous with her time, her sound advice, her resources, and most of all with her love. Her heart and her home were open to all, and she and her husband often hosted gatherings of their large extended families. It was a place that was comfortable and comforting to all who entered. Teresa had a keen sense of fairness, and advocated constantly wherever she saw unfairness. She was a true leader and a guiding light, gently helping others see the right thing to do. She was compassionate and kind, and genuinely interested in others, always considerate of their needs and feelings.

When she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in the fall of 2006, she determined that the disease would not define her. She would not let cancer take from her any more than it absolutely had to. She knew that what you focus on grows, so she focused on living as she always had, with joy and strength and character. She loved her work as a tax preparer at Mallon Tax Consultants, but mostly she loved her growing family. She reveled in her time at camp in New Hampshire, surrounded by her sons and the women they married, who were like daughters to her. She had been a volunteer at her sons' schools when they were young, and a hockey mom who took it to the next level, serving as director of the peewee hockey league in Reading. She handled her illness with a grace and dignity that was inspiring. She most wanted to survive to see her granddaughter, and when Paige was born there was a new light in Teresa's eyes. Right up to the end, the presence of her granddaughter brought a smile to Teresa's face. Teresa left an indelible mark on this world, and her absence will be long and sorely felt.
