Thelma M. (Jamieson) McCulloch

Thelma Mary (Jamieson) McCulloch, a resident of Reading for over 60 years, passed away on May 18, 2025. She is 92 years of age. Devoted to her family, science, the arts, and the precise use of the English language, Thelma leaves a legacy of warm memories, inspired learning, and friendship among generations of those who knew and loved her.

Born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on March 14, 1933, Thelma grew up in Medford, MA. A proud graduate of Emmanuel College in 1954, she began her career in biology labs and as an English teacher. She later dedicated herself to raising her family in Reading, MA, with her then-husband, Norris McCulloch. As her children matured, Thelma re-entered the workforce, where she continued to build friendships through her work in customer service and clerical roles.

Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Estelle (Mullen) Jamieson, and her siblings, Jane Jamieson, Edward Leo Jamieson and sister-in-law Ann Booth Jamieson. She will be profoundly missed by her children: Jane and her husband Scott McGrath, Susan Smith, Teresa and her husband Chuck Poellot, Ann McCulloch, Sharon Harrison and her partner Marc Tolin, and David and wife Jennifer McCulloch. Thelma’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Christopher McGrath, Katelyn McGrath, Laura Chesney, Ellen Therrien, Sarah Dion, Matthew Smith, Mark Smith, Michael Wilhelm, Jessica Harrison, and Sofia Narinkevicuis as well as her 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a wide circle of extended family across New England and the Canadian Maritimes.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Thelma’s Family for visiting hours on Tuesday, May 27th from 4-7pm in the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING. Parking attendants and elevator are available.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Thelma’s Eternal Life will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 10:30 in Saint Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street Reading. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
