Thomas Edward Boyle

September 12, 1939 — February 18, 2017

Thomas E. Boyle, Sr. of Derry, New Hampshire, formerly of Stoneham passed away on February 18, 2017 at the age of 77. He was born on September 12, 1939 in Malden, Massachusetts, son of the late James and Caroline (Leonard) Boyle. He is survived by three brothers, James, Robert and Michael, who all as kids were fondly known around town as the "notorious Boyle brothers!"

Upon graduating Stoneham High School in 1958, Tom entered the US Navy as a Seaman First Class and served four years aboard the USS Nantahala. After completing his tour of duty, he then spent the majority of his years working hard in construction as a pile driver for Union Local 56, braving the elements with nary a complaint. A man of deep faith and a generous nature, he served for a number of years as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Patrick's Church in Stoneham.

Tom is survived by his beloved sweetheart of 61 years, Mary Theresa (Mitchell) Boyle, who were married for 51 wonderful years. They often shared stories of how they met, when they were paired up as partners to dance together in a minstrel show, and each knew immediately that the other was "the one." Tom loved telling the story of asking Mary on a date to sit by Spot Pond to watch the submarine races, and Mary kept looking into the pond to find the nonexistent submarines. Tom had quite the sense of humor. Their strong, loving marriage was full of laughter, and an inspiration to all who knew them.

He is also survived by his children, Kristen Iantosca and her husband Rob, Thomas E. Boyle, Jr. and his fiancé Sheena Paon and Shannon Miller and her husband Duwane. A kindhearted, loving and patient father, he never once missed a sporting event of any of his children, often arriving at games straight from his construction work, still covered in dirt and grime, but determined to be there. He always spoke words of support and encouragement, offering a listening ear to anyone who needed it. He knew just what to say to make one feel better. His sage advice and words of wisdom helped everyone through difficult times. He was immensely proud of his children, and was a solid presence that always could be depended on.

Tom was a well-loved grandfather of three, Michael Iantosca, Daniella Iantosca and Autumn Miller. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, he took especial delight in teasing his grandchildren. With a twinkle in his eye and a delighted chuckle, he loved it when they teased him right back. He relished his role as grandfather, and was affectionately called "Bubbles," by his granddaughter, Autumn, with whom he shared a special bond. He will be so greatly missed, and will live on in our hearts and wonderful memories.
