Thomas J.Gilmartin of Greenfield, formerly of Stoneham passed away on November 18, 2014 at 80 years of age.
Born on September 6, 1934, Thomas was the caring son of the late Thomas J. and Mary (Elwood) Gilmartin. He was a former athlete and avid fan of all sports. A devoted Spartan, Thomas was a 1953 graduate of Stoneham High School where he received varsity letters in football, hockey and baseball. Thomas was a longtime coach of youth hockey in Stoneham. He was a volunteer with the St. Patrick Drill Team and an usher at Fenway Park for forty-five years. Thomas was also a member of E.M.H.O.A. High School Hockey Officical.
He was the beloved husband of Muriel (Coutu) Robbins Gilmartin and the late Joan (Day) Gilmartin. Thomas was the loving father of Kathleen Gilmartin, Maureen Caracciolo and her husband Anthony, Doreen Xirinachs and her husband Stephen, Thomas J. Gilmartin, Jr., Erin Porter and her husband John and Robert Gilmartin and his wife Kerri. He was the caring grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 2. Thomas was the brother of Joan Allen and her husband Thomas and the late Paul Gilmartin and his surviving wife Mary. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday, November 24, 2014 at 9am followed by Funeral Service celebrating Thomas's Eternal Life in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10:00am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2-6pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Saint Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
