Thomas J. Mullen

Thomas J. Mullen of Reading, died of pneumonia on November 11, 2008.



He was born on December 15, 1922 in Somerville, Massachusetts and graduated from Somerville High School.



Mr. Mullen served in the United States Army during World War II, seeing action in Europe with the 648th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Following the war he worked for First National Stores in its Somerville warehouse until 1976. He went on to work for the Reading School Department as a custodian until retiring in 1985.



He leaves his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary E. Mullen, and two children, Thomas A. Mullen of Wakefield and Mary K. Yackley of Lunenberg, Vermont. Mr. Mullen was the brother of the late Louise Mullen. He was a member of the American Legion. An amateur humorist, he published many epigrams, including "Drive-in banks were invented so cars could see their real owners."



Funeral from the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Friday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Thomas' Life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Thursday from 4-8 pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Please honor Thomas by making donations in memory of him to Angel Flight New England, 492 Sutton Street, N. Andover, MA 01845.
