Victor V. Vacon

d. April 14, 2013

Victor V. Vacon of Stoneham passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. He was 88 years of age.

Born in Stoneham, Victor was the loving son of the late Alec and Rose (Babin) Vacon.

Victor was a warm and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be sorely missed.

The son of immigrants from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Victor was a life long resident of Stoneham. He was a graduate of Stoneham High School class of 1942, captain of the track team, on the hockey team and tennis team. After high school, Victor enlisted in the Navy. During World War II, Victor proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Navy as a Signalman Third Class on the USS Barnett and saw action in 4 battles in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. After the war he had a TV repair business and worked with his father Alec at Vacon Coal and Ice, a business started during the Great Depression. In the 1960's he took over the business which became Vacon Oil, servicing customers in Stoneham and surrounding communities. Victor ran his business the old fashion way, focused on his customers and relationships in the community. He served as a director at Stoneham Savings Bank.

Victor enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and boating at a cottage he acquired for his family in the Meridith NH lakes region.

Victor was the beloved husband of 61 years to the late Rosalie (Bourque) Vacon. He was the devoted father of Gary Vacon and his wife Janet of E. Falmouth, Denise Migliorini and her husband Steven of Stoneham and Andrea Vacon, of Melrose. Victor was the cherished grandfather of Kyle and Robyn Migliorini. He was the dear brother of Paul Vacon of Enfield, CT and Bernard Vacon of Stoneham.
