Vivian P. (Plourde) Jay

October 21, 1927 — June 20, 2014

Vivian P. (Plourde) Jay of Wakefield formerly of Medford and Centerville, June 20, 2014 at age 86. Vivian was the devoted love and wife of the late Edward S Jay. She was the loved mother of ten children, Edward S. Jay, Jr. and his wife Carol, Paul B. Jay and his wife Lucinda, Patricia M. Hogan and her husband Daniel, Mark A. Jay, Donna J. Jay, Kathleen M. Jay, Christine M. Alejunas and her husband Vyto, Mary Jane Jay and the late Carol A. and William R. Jay and the loved grandmother and great grandmother of their children. Dear sister of Bernard Plourde, Harold Plourde, Geraldine Russell and the late Roger Plourde.

All members of the family truly loved and respected Mom/Nana/Lala in that she touched each of us in special ways. Vivian - known more familiarly as "Viv" - and Ed formed a formidable team in raising a large family and both working full time. Despite their hectic schedules, Viv made sure there was fun involved. There were the Sundays at Nantasket Beach and many memorable vacation trips to her beloved Millinocket, Maine. There were pool parties in the back yard, Thanksgiving dinners at Fort Heath and her Christmas parties.

Viv was a respected and dedicated nurse at MGH for over 40 years. Dr. William Harris, the famed orthopedic surgeon, with whom Vivian worked with for over 25 years said of her, "She was a magician. She could fix people and make them well. She helped train hundreds of fellows and residents from all over the world who were devoted to her. Vivian had her finger on the heart of MGH for many years. Vivian provided me with a pathway for how I raised my children."

Vivian's compassion and generosity went far beyond her family and her work at MGH. For years she generously supported under privileged children both in the United States and internationally. In retirement Vivian joyfully worked with special needs children, especially at the YMCA Cape Cod's Special Needs Swim Program, all with whom she worked and those kids benefited from her healing powers. Vivian was our beloved Matriarch. The word Viv in Latin means life, so it is with Vivian, as she gave life and enrichment to so many. She was truly a remarkable woman.
