Walter J. Gillespie, of Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was 84 years of age.





Born in Somerville, Walter was the loving son of the late Charles Gillespie and Elizabeth (Hegarty) Gillespie. Walter was a resident of Reading for many years. He proudly served our Country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.





Walter was the past president of The Boston Association of Claims Executives and The American Arbitration Association. He was the former Partner of Allied Adjustment Service.





Walter loved his family. They were first and foremost in his life. Many summers were spent in their home in Gilmanton Iron Works in New Hampshire going golfing and swimming.





Walter was the beloved husband of Madeline (Lang) Gillespie. He was the devoted father of Dennis Gillespie and his wife Wendy of Haverhill, Madeline Polcari and her husband John of Burke, Virginia, Walter Gillespie Jr. and his wife Gail of North Andover, Gerard Gillespie and his wife Denise of Danvers, James Gillespie and his late wife Janet of North Andover, Robert Gillespie and his wife Dawn of Branchberg, New Jersey and Craig Gillespie and his wife Lorna of Methuen. Walter was the cherished grandfather of Kelly Ricci and her husband Joe, Meghan Gillespie, John David Polcari and his late wife Therese, John and Christine Gillespie, Allison, Elizabeth and Thomas Gillespie, Ryan and Courtlyn Gillespie, Justin and Kathryn Gillespie, Madeline and Drew Gillespie. He was the dear brother of Madeline DeAntonis and her husband Tony, Jean Perry and her husband Al, all of Reading, Paul Gillespie and his wife Martha of Topsfield and the late Charles Gillespie and Elizabeth Brown Gillespie. Walter was also survived by many nieces and nephews.





Funeral from the Joseph Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Walter's Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours, Friday 3-7pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
