Mericantante, Walter C. –Of North Reading, Aug. 21. Father of Patricia, Paul, Johnna and the late Michelle. Brother of Frances Venezia and her husband Mario of Woburn and the late John Mericantante Jr., Mary Blake and Leo Mericantante. Brother in law of Dorothy Mericantante. Walter is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral Service in the Cota Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 24 ^th at 11am. Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday from 9-11am. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's name to the St. Jude Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Walter served his country with the National Guard and the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a 50 year member and two-time Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. Walter as a child was very involved in the Medford Park League playing both football and baseball.  He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved to discuss the local teams.
