Walton R. Sylvia of Reading, a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran, retired carpenter and former Walton Furniture of Reading owner, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Mass General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 80 years of age.
A parishioner of St. Agnes of Reading, he was the loving husband of Eleanor A. (Camuso) Sylvia for which they shared forty - four years of marriage. He was born in Malden on May 22, 1923. He was the son of the late Manuel and Sadie Sylvia.
Walton Sylvia served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters from 1943 to 1946 aboard U.S.S. Card Light aircraft carrier. He is survived by his wife Eleanor as well as his children: Daniel Manning and his wife Paula of Wakefield, Deborah Henderson and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, Walton Sylvia Jr. and his wife Theresa of Wilmington, Terry Sylvia and his wife Laurie of Reading and Eleanor Florence and her husband James of Tewksbury. Mr. Sylvia also leaves behind nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Sylvia was the brother of the late George T. Sylvia of Lynn and Virginia Burns of Melrose.
Funeral from the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Friday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 9am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Thursday 3-7pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, North Reading.
