William “Bill” Barringer, 80, of North Reading, passed away on October 8, 2026, after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Everett, Bill graduated from Everett High School and Suffolk University, where he starred on the basketball team. He spent much of his career in billing systems and retired from Verizon as a Director in 2011.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Eleanor Barringer, and his wife of more than 50 years, Marilyn. Among their fondest memories together were the Saturday night dinners shared with neighbors during their early years in North Reading.
He was also predeceased by his daughter, Karen O’Connor, with whom he shared a unique and special bond. After Marilyn’s death, Bill and Karen became an even greater source of comfort and support to one another. They spent time together several times a week, especially on Sunday afternoons. Bill was by Karen’s side when she passed away.
Bill is survived by his children, Brent Barringer and his wife Andrea and Jill Borgonzi and her husband Mike; his son-in-law, JR O’Connor; his grandchildren, William O’Connor, Joey Borgonzi, Nina Borgonzi, and Parker Barringer; his sisters, Virginia Kirlis and Nancy Byrne and her husband, Jim; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Bill had a passion for sports, his community at St. Theresa’s in North Reading, working out, ’50s music, and watching The Sopranos. But above all else, he loved his family.
But Bill’s best friends were his grandchildren, to whom he will always affectionately be known as “Pa.”
He recently taught William to drive and was thrilled to celebrate his oldest grandchild’s high school graduation earlier this year. Pa loved flying to first Kansas City and then Nashville to watch Joey and Nina play sports, attend Titans football games, and share dinners at the Capital Grille. He regularly brought Legos to Parker and took him to parks throughout Charlestown to shoot hoops and navigate the monkey bars. Our family will carry on these traditions in his honor.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Bill’s family on Thursday, October 15th, 2026 from 8:30 – 10:30am in the Barile – Cota Family Funeral Home, 335 Park Street (corner of Park St. & RT 28) NORTH READING at READING line followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Bill’s Eternal Life in Saint Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Stret North Reading at 11am. Interment Riverside Cemetery, North Reading.
“See you around like a donut, Pa.”
