William L. Binford of Andover passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home. He was 90 years of age.
Born on August 26, 1930 in Somerville, William was the loving son of the late William L. Binford and Dorothy (Whelpley) Binford. Bill was a warm, kind and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was a fun and funny guy who loved a good laugh, history, politics and all Boston sports.
During the Korean War, Bill proudly defended our freedom by serving as a EM3 in the United States Navy. He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post 45 in Medford. Bill was a dedicated data specialist for New England Telephone Company/ Verizon for 43 years before he retired. After his retirement he became The Navy Yard Courier, delivering packages all over New England. Over the years he was a collector of political pins, metal signs, jewelry and various other estate sale finds. He was a passionate supporter of The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of their Hall of Fame.
Bill was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Hanley) Binford for 66 years. He was the devoted father of Kathleen Vieira and her husband James, Linda Boucher and her husband John and Janice Hickey and her husband Mark. The cherished grandfather of Matthew Vieira and his wife Amanda, Michael Vieira, Meredith Fjeldheim and her husband Zak , Sarah Boucher and her fiancé Nate Reese, Joseph Boucher, Annie Hickey and her fiancé Kyle O'Connell and William Hickey. Bill was the doting great grandfather of Zachary and Mackenzie Vieira. He was the dear brother of the late Jacqueline Gale, Virginia Freeman and Jean Gallant. Bill is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Bill will privately held by the Family.
