William J. "Billy" Butts, Jr.

August 3, 1962 — October 21, 2021

William J. "Billy" Butts, Jr. of Stoneham, formerly of Medford passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at his home. He is 59 years of age.

Billy Butts was born in Boston to his loving parents Priscilla and William. His older sister, Laurel Butts was a guiding force and best friend for 59 years. At the age of 17, Billy began working for the state house, which ignited a life-long passion for helping others. He entered the Medford Police Academy before completing his associates degree at Western New England Community College.

On November 6, 1988 he married his former wife, Susan Butts and they had three loving sons. Billy was a respected police officer in the city of Medford for 32 years and is beloved by the community he served. Billy was so beloved by his community that many referred to him as 'The Mayor". He was awarded for his contributions in countless fundraisers and charities throughout the years and was incredibly generous with his time and energy. On March 13, 2009, Billy was presented with the Community Service Award, in recognition of his outstanding service to the many youth programs throughout the City of Medford and the families of Medford Police Officers. Billy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family and friends, vacationing with his three boys and talking cars with his friends Indy and Emil.

Since a young boy, Billy had a fascination with automobiles, so much so, all the neighbor hood kids called him "beep". He was genuine, kind-hearted and a master of conversation. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, his wildly entertaining stories, comedic relief and his willingness to help at any time to any neighbor in need. His grand- daughter, Gracie Mae Butts, was the light of his life, and he was proud to be her grampy. Billy's legacy lives on through his three sons, and their bond is eternal.

Billy is the beloved father of Joseph Butts, Derek Butts and William Butts. He is the cherished grandfather of Gracie Mae Butts. The devoted brother of Laurel Butts, Billy is the former husband of Susan (Aprile) Butts. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
