William J. Doherty

William "Uncle Bill" Joseph Doherty of Reading, formerly of California passed away on Friday, November 14, 2003 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford after a long illness.
Born and raised in Reading, he was the son of the late John J. Doherty and Annie (McGahey) Doherty. He was a loving and caring son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.
William loved bike riding and swimming. He was an avid golfer and was a professional golf caddy for many celebrities in California. A Disabled Veteran, William proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. William was also active with the Merchant Marines.
William was the dear brother of the late John, Edwin "Doc", Joseph, Francis and Austin. He was the uncle of Susan Johnson, Peter Doherty, Elizabeth Jones, all of Reading, Pat Doherty of Reading and Camden, Maine, Joyce Bergholtz of Rockport and he was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. READING Wednesday at 9am. Interment will take place at 11:30pm at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
