William E. Dyment

November 28, 1931 — January 18, 2019

William E. Dyment, 87, of Reading, MA, beloved husband of Willa (Jenkins) Dyment, passed away on Friday, January 18th, 2019, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, he is the loving son of the late Henry and Isabel (McLean) Dyment.

Bill was the proud father of William Dyment, Jr., and his wife, Burnadean, Wendy Dyment, Amy Dyment, Beth Dyment Hughes, and her husband, Eric. He was also the cherished grandfather of Anna and William Hughes and William Henry Dyment. (And he would regularly brag about all of them to anyone who would listen!) He is survived by his beloved sister, Joan Cooper, and her husband, Frank, as well as his nephew, Mark Sievers.

Bill grew up in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. After he served in the Army during the Korean War, Bill earned a degree in mathematics from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. He went on to a long, enriching career in engineering, spending the majority of his employment at AT&T (formerly Western Electric) in North Andover, MA. His love for All Things Technology fueled his need to have the latest gadgets as soon as they came out. Whether it was his cherished record player console, his VCR and DVD players, or the latest Samsung phone, Dad was a techie through and through--even asking for his smartphone just before moving to hospice.

BIll's love for God inspired his life of service. For most of his life, he attended the same church his mother attended: the First Church of the Nazarene in Malden, MA. Once Bill made his mother's God his own, he began serving in various roles, including Sunday School Superintendent, Church Board Member, Church Bus Driver, Sunday School Teacher, Sound Technician, Sonshine Daycare Board Member, and even Head Chef for the Mother's Day banquets! Bill's connections with the Malden church led to his continued service to, ministering from, and friendships with the members of the Korean Church of the Nazarene in Reading. He deeply cherished the friendships he made through his ongoing involvement with this congregation.

In addition, Bill served on the Board of Trustees and on the Alumni Association Council at his alma mater, Eastern Nazarene College (ENC). As a trustee, Bill helped restructure the board, mentored new trustees, regularly solicited feedback from faculty and students, and was part of the commencement program when his children received their ENC degrees. On the Alumni Association Council, Bill worked feverishly to connect with and garner support from ENC alums. For his years of service and dedication to the college, Bill received an Alumnus of the Year Award, a Lifetime Service Award, and an Honorary Doctorate.

Bill also served many years as President of the Board for the Windsor Hills Campground, spearheading building projects, assisting in financial decisions, and supporting and training new staff members. As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Bill was always at home on the district campground.

A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 529 Eastern Ave, Malden, on Saturday, January 26th, 2019, at 1pm. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Bill's memory to one of two places that were close to his heart: 1) the Korean Church of the Nazarene (900 Main St., Reading, MA, 01867; Checks should be made payable to KCON with the words "Bill Dyment Memorial" on the memo line); or 2) the Malden Warming Center at the First Church of the Nazarene (https://www.egsnetwork.com/gift2/?giftid=58F7E1D54D2F4DF).
