William Paul Hogan

**William Paul Hogan ("Bill" or "Billy")**

**May 6, 1946 – December 6, 2024**

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Hogan on December 6, 2024, at the age of 78. Bill was a cherished partner, father, Papa, brother, and friend who brought warmth, wisdom, humor and love to all who knew him.

Born on May 6, 1946, Bill grew up in Somerville, MA. After serving in the Marines as a young man, Bill returned home and began his career as an MDC police officer. However, his greatest calling was his family, and he worked many jobs over the years in order to have a continual presence at home with his girls. The one constant in Bill’s storied career and personal life was the importance of leading a life of service. In later years Bill found his purpose as a facilities manager for a homeless shelter in Boston, dedicating himself to supporting others in need until his retirement. Bill was always a champion to those in need of a second chance.

Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Noreen (Wall) Hogan, and his dear companion of the past several years, Mary Ravary. He is survived by his brother, John Hogan, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.

Bill’s outgoing and talkative nature, boundless curiosity, and love of learning enriched the lives of those around him. He was never without a story to tell. Bill had an adventurous spirit and found great joy in traveling. From discovering new destinations to revisiting favorite places, Bill made every journey unforgettable. His trips with his family took him to places like Hawaii, Florida, Europe, the USVI and Vieques, PR. In recent years, he had the opportunity to travel through and camp in many of the states he'd always wanted to see.

Along with collecting friends everywhere he travelled, Bill was constantly collecting new skills and hobbies. From drum circles to sewing machines to motorcycles to leather craft, he was a modern renaissance man with a lifelong love of learning and new experiences.

A dedicated member of the AA community, Bill found a strong connection through his involvement in groups that provided support and inspiration to others. He gained countless friends through the decades of his fellowship.

Above all, Bill was a devoted father to his daughters, Kerri and Katie, a proud father-in-law to Eric, and a loving Papa to his grandsons, Liam, Logan, and Lucas, who were his pride and joy. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his wisdom, humor, entertaining stories and unconditional love.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Bill's family on Saturday December 14th 1-4pm at the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, Reading, MA. Parking attendants and an elevator are available.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in June 2025. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to www.viequeslove.org in his honor.

Bill’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, immediate acceptance of all, endless stories and service to others. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
