William Harding Mccarthy

August 2, 1923 — December 26, 2012

William Harding McCarthy of Stoneham, formerly of Malden, passed away on Wednesday December 26, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House. He was 89 years of age.



Born in Everett, William was the loving son of the late William Henry McCarthy and Helen (Carruthers) McCarthy. William was a warm and caring son, husband, father, uncle, brother in law and friend. He will be sadly missed.



William was a project design engineer for Stone and Webster specifically, he was involved in American nuclear power generation projects. He was an avid golfer at Unicorn Golf Course in Stoneham. William proudly defended our freedom during World War II while serving in the US Navy.



William was the beloved husband of the late Jean I. (Turner) McCarthy with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Robert McCarthy of NH, Joanne Downey of Haverhill and Paul McCarthy and his wife Tacheryn of N. Andover. William was the dear brother in law of Carol Rauseo and Louise Turner. He is also survived by many loving nieces and a nephew.



Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating William's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Sunday 2-6pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and handicapped elevator are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
