Winifred (Moriarty) Murphy

Winifred (Moriarty) Murphy of Andover passed away on June 25, 2021 at 91 years of age.


Born on January 7, 1930 in County Cork, Ireland, Winnie is the loving daughter of the late John Moriarty and Ellen (Hedderman) Moriarty. Winnie is a warm, kind and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Winnie, also loving known as 'Nana Pooh' by her grandchildren, arrived to American in June 1957 with her husband and son. The family settled in Reading, MA. She attended Boston Business School for computer science which led to a long career with Hewlett Packard. Winnie was a devoted catholic. Her passion was her faith. She attended bible studies and participated in religious retreats. She looked forward to watching the catholic network. Especially 'Going My Way' with Father Chris Hickey. Her family meant the world to her. Never forgetting a birthday or special day in their lives. She will be missed by all.

Winnie is the beloved wife of the late Patrick F. Murphy. She is the devoted mother of the late John Murphy and the late Mary Ellen Monahan. The cherished grandmother of Krista Murphy, Sean Ruehl, triplets Eilene, Faith and Mary Monahan and Patrick Monahan, Winnie is the doting great grandmother of Jeremy, Conor and Tzipora. She is the dear sister of Maurice Moriarty, Roland Moriarty, Mary Doyle and the late Catherine, John, William and Margaret Moriarty, the late Nora O'Donoghue and Eileen Tongue. Winnie is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING, Friday, July 2nd at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Winnie's Eternal Life in St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St. North Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Winnie's Family on Thursday, July 1st from 6-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
